DATES FOR YOUR DIARY 2009
(Updated June 2009)
SATURDAY 20 JUNE
Otley Carnival - once again it is time for the Otley Carnival, held on the showfield at Otley. The SLS, complete with their gazebo, will be represented with a stall at this event. We sincerely hope that it won’t tipple it down like it did last year as the committee and volunteers were looking forward to meeting the public and putting them in the picture as to the background of the society. Hopefully we can recruit new members to our ranks from locals who remember our favourite bus company, ever.
TUESDAY 7 JULY
Cumbria Classic Tour – Our next excursion into the scenic splendour of Cumbria is once more centered around the Settle-Carlisle line, which this year celebrated twenty years since the line was saved.
It is planned to join the 10.49 Leeds-Carlisle service, booking a return to Kirkby Stephen. This train picks up at Shipley 11.02, Bingley 11.06 and Keighley 11.12 and alighting at Ribblehead at 12.02. Your tour director, Andy Richardson will meet and greet the party there, but co-host and member Harvey Midwood will be travelling on the train if you have any queries.
Lunch is at the cosy Station Inn and there will be an optional short, guided look at the historic site of Ribblehead viaduct before catching a vintage bus to Hawes. Then it is on to Ravenstonedale depot of Cumbria Classic Coaches for afternoon refreshments before returning from Kirkby Stephen at 17.14, due into Leeds City 19.07.
We have chosen a later departure from Leeds to avoid potential connection dramas and for those who have yet to sample the delights of Cumbria Classic, we will probably choose a slightly different route next year, so enjoy it while you can.
Please notify the Chairman, Barry Rennison of your intention to travel and he will notify Andy Richardson of the names of the party. All we need now is you and decent weather for a great day out.
